Pitt pens over gesso and a multi-size circle template were used in this page, The text reads:"pull some strings look around diplomatic inferior."

Between Chapters - an Explaination

Just a quick explaination about my technique with Altered Text.

Step 1 is choose the words or phrase from the page that stand out to you. Circle them to help identify them in the next step.

Step 2 is paint a base coat of white gesso on the page avoiding the circled words from Step 1. After the coat has dried, paint a second coat. This helps thicken the page so your media doesn't soak through to the other side and also opaques the remaining words.

Step 3 is to accent your chosen words or phrase with designs or colors in the media of your choice. This is the best part of the project. :) Oil-based products are not acceptible as they can damage the book.

This is watercolor and colored pencil over gesso. The text reads: "a media breakdown preventing the hunt"

This was stippled with a very fine Sharpie on gesso. The text reads: " She's been hurt she has the skill she has the hatred She said she'd tried"

Unfortunately, my scanner couldn't handle fluorescent. The circles are supposed to be fluorescent orange and fluorescent pink. Gel pen was used over gesso. The text reads: "Do you think he's not going to know I'm afraid It scares me protect Help"

This is Sharpie pens over gesso. The text reads: "she had to force him to go now. three times Three times Three times You're on the uphill path"

Gessoed page with watercolor and water-based markers. The text reads: "a patient soul smiled."

This is an unusual effect. I used gel pen in uncoated paper to simulate a painting in a frame. The text reads: "I'm not sure. I'm sure I'll make it work. I'll be careful. I couldn't believe it."

This page is done with a fine-point Sharpie on gesso. The text reads: " "You'll never be ready." "You taught me. I'm ready." He needs you" "He needs you." "

Dreams is an altered text project using the book "Killer Dreams" by Iris Johansen. I am trying to create dream-like phrases to keep with a dream theme. This is the first page of the book. It is done in crayons and stickers. The text reads: "People lazing around lunch coming better with love."
